North Country Shifu, teaching

  • Stables Studio Coopers Settlement Bundoora Park, 1069 Plenty Road, Bundoora Bundoora Australia (map)

Velma is a papermaker and fibre artist from New York State.  Her work is influenced by the isolated and rural North Country where she lives.  In this two day workshop you will experiment with spinning and weaving papers on small looms to create four selvedge cloths.  You will make a book with Iowa Case Paper to hold samples.  Expect to try a number of colouring techniques as well as learn to simplify and sharpen your technical skills as you bring your ideas into the haptic experience of creating story.  You will bring words, papers, colour, thought, stitch and weave together into personal and class-wide narratives that serve as a map of your learning. — Papermakers of Victoria
